Ethical policy

Our statement

At Truly Sumptuous, we believe that beauty shines from within. Our products are designed to nourish your skin, relieve stress and leave you radiant with health. We are passionate about the quality of our ingredients and believe that products you use on your skin should be pure enough to eat. We use organic suppliers and environmentally friendly packaging wherever possible. As our products are made by hand, carbon emissions from our manufacturing processes are virtually nil. We are working with our suppliers and distributors to achieve zero carbon emissions status. We are a small company and have some way to go but we intend to do all we can to help reform non-ethical working practices in the cosmetics industry.

Our working practices

Truly Sumptuous is proud of the quality of its environmentally sustainable products. We:

  • Deliver consistently high quality products in line with company standards, policies and ethical trading practices
  • Are developing a reputation as a fair and ethical business
  • Celebrate regional diversity by sourcing local and regional specialities as raw materials
  • Enthusiastically support the work of the Women’s Environmental Network
  • Operate fair trade policies
  • Support social objectives with surplus revenues from business profits

Our social objectives
Champion regional integrity

Truly Sumptuous sources its workforce, speciality products and ingredients from local and targeted regions e.g., apple blossom honey from Surrey, beeswax from Kent etc. We work with local partners/agencies to recruit and train local long-term unemployed people. We also create showcase opportunities for young local designers.

Environmental footprint

Our manufacturing process incurs no use of industrial machinery or noxious fumes or noise. Recycled and biodegradable materials are used for packaging as far as possible. Our gift baskets and boxes use wood shavings from sustainable forests which not only smell fabulous but offer better protection than shredded paper. We aim to provide our customers with containers and bottles that they can reuse.

Regeneration

One of our long-term objectives is to support economic and physical regeneration i.e. invest in the British rural economy, offer a change of use for agricultural land, new business opportunities and diversification.

Added value

A second long-term objective is to establish assembly lines in southern and eastern Africa to empower local people to provide the European market with added value products.
